Hi, I’m Graceann
I help beginners learn Japanese in a way that feels simple, practical, and actually doable — even if you’re starting from zero.
My Story
I studied Japanese Language and Culture at Florida State University, where I built a strong foundation in both the language and the culture behind it.
During my time in school, I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Tokyo at Waseda University in the Center for Japanese Language (CJL) program, where I experienced what it’s like to use Japanese in real, everyday situations. The experience completely changed how I see language learning — it’s not just about memorizing, it’s about being able to actually connect and communicate. I found many situations where my textbook only based learning did not translate directly, at which point my effectiveness in communicating became more important than exact grammar.
I’m JLPT N3 certified and TEFL certified, and I’ve spent time helping others learn in a way that feels supportive rather than overwhelming.
I also completed an Honors in the Major thesis at Florida State University entitled “Death as an Experience in the Works of Natsume Sōseki.
My Philosophy
When I started learning Japanese, I remember how confusing and overwhelming it could feel. There’s so much information, and it’s easy to feel stuck or unsure where to begin.
That’s why I focus on keeping lessons simple, structured, and personalized.
Instead of trying to cover everything at once, we focus on what actually matters — building confidence, understanding how the language works, and being able to use it in real situations.
My goal is to help you feel comfortable speaking and understanding Japanese, not just studying it.
I mostly work with beginners who:
- Have little to no experience with Japanese
- Feel overwhelmed trying to learn on their own
- Are planning a trip to Japan
- Want to finally stay consistent and make progress
If you’re looking for a way to start learning Japanese that feels manageable and actually fits into your life, I’d love to help.
